   Walt Disney Records' Disneymania, featuring classic Disney songs performed by acts like 'N SYNC, Usher, Aaron Carter, Hilary Duff, and Christina Aguilera, is released in the U.S.

Disney also releases its 2001 blockbuster Monsters, Inc., on a 
2-disc special edition DVD and VHS. It features an all-new animated short Mike's New Car, created exclusively for this release.

Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter, a new sitcom from
 Touchstone/ABC debuts. Based on the self-improvement book of the same name, the series stars John Ritter and Katey Sagal.

Kingdom Hearts, an action role-playing video game developed by Square for the PlayStation 2 video game console, is released in North America. The result of a collaboration between Square and The Walt Disney Company, the game combines characters and settings from Disney animated features with those from Square's Final Fantasy series. Kingdom Hearts has already been in release since March 28 in Japan.

Actor-comedian-singer & composer Jerry Colona, the voice of March Hare in Disney's
 1951 Alice in Wonderland, is born Gerardo Luigi Colonna in Boston,
 Massachusetts. Remembered best as the zaniest of Bob Hope's sidekicks on Hope's popular radio shows
 and films of the 1940s and 1950s, Colona also lent his voice to Disney's 1950 The Brave Engineer (as the
 narrator) and the 1946 Make Mine Music (narrating the Casey At Bat segment).
1917:
Disney Legend & camera effects artist Bob Broughton is 
born Berkeley, California. First beginning his career with Disney in 
1937 in the mailroom, he shortly thereafter moved into the camera department.
He worked on nearly every motion picture from Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs to The Black Hole (in 1979). Broughton also helped Dick Van Dyke
dance with animated penguins in Mary Poppins by using Color Traveling Matte Composite 
Cinematography, an award-winning technology that combines live-action and animated actors.
1927:
Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Rickety Gin is shipped to New York
 distributor M. Winkler. It will be released December 12, 1927 along with a second Oswald short,
 Empty Socks (the first Disney "Christmas" themed short).
1928:
Actor and photographer Roddy McDowall, the voice of Mr. Soil in the 1998 A Bug's Life,
is born in London, England. His Disney live-action credits include the That Darn Cat! (1965), The
Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin (1967), Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971), The Cat from Outer Space (1978), and
The Black Hole (1979) as the voice of V.I.N.CENT. He also lent his voice to episodes of Darkwing Duck and Gargoyles. (Sci-fi fans know McDowall best for his role of Cornelius in the Planet of the Apes series of films.)
1932:
Disney's Mickey Mouse cartoon The Whoopee Party is released. Directed by Wilfred
 Jackson, Mickey and his pals throw a wild party - that includes roast chickens and lamps coming to life
 and joining in the chaos. The police are summoned to quiet things down ... but end up joining in themselves!
1945:
Actor Bruce Spence, the voice of Chum the shark in the 2003 "Finding Nemo," is born in Auckland, New Zealand. His Disney credits also include "Inspector Gadget 2" (2003) as Professor Baxter, "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith" as Tion Medon, and "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017) as Mayor Dix. With over 100 film and television credits, you may recognize Spence from "Mad Max 2" (1981) as the gyrocopter pilot, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome" (1985) as Jedediah the pilot, and "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader" (2010) as Lord Rhoop. Spence won an AFI Award for Best Actor for his role in the 1971 Australian comedy "Stork."

Actor John Ritter (best known for his role of Jack Tripper on the
late-1970s hit sitcomThree's Company) is born in Burbank,
California. He appeared in the 1971 Disney live-action film The Barefoot Executive,
and several Disney television specials including Mickey's 60th BirthdayThe
Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park Grand Opening, and Walt Disney World Christmas
Parade. Ritter also starred in the ABC/Walt Disney Studio sitcom 8 Simple Rules for
Dating My Teenage Daughter, until his untimely death in 2003. (John was the son of
country music singer and movie actor Tex Ritter; the voice of Big Al, an
audio-animatronic bear at the Country Bear Jamboree attraction in the Magic Kingdom
at the Walt Disney World Resort.)

The ABC-TV series Walt Disney Presents airs for the last time. The following week the series will be called Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color ... and air on NBC.
1995:
A Golden Horsehose Revue Reunion takes place at the Wells Fargo Theater in California. Performers Wally Boag, Fulton Burley, and Betty Taylor (who all starred in the popular Disneyland stage show) appear.
1998:
The world premiere preview of Walt Disney Theatrical Productions' musical 
Elaborate Lives: The Legend of Aida takes place at the Alliance Theatre in 
Atlanta, Georgia. (Officially opening October 7, the show will run through November 8.)
1957:
Sterling Holloway (the future voice of Winnie the Pooh) signs his first 
contract with the Walt Disney Music Company. The agreement  ensures him star status on
all recordings (unlike many of his contemporaries who perform uncredited).
2006:
Kevin Broady, 44, of Brea, California, posts a time of 1:11:31 to lead the field of
more than 9,700 participants en route to victory in the inaugural Disneyland Half 
Marathon in Anaheim. Broady, a former Disneyland Cast Member, finishes just a 
minute and a half over Benjamin Gomez Gutierrez, 30, of Jalostotitlan, Mexico,
who finishes second with 1:13:04!

1991:
Disney's pop group The Party release their second album In The Meantime, In Between Time on Hollywood Records. The group consists of Disney Channel Mouseketeers.

The new sitcom Home Improvement, starring comedian Tim Allen, 
debuts on ABC-TV. The show centers on the daily trials and tribulations of Tim Taylor, a TV show host 
raising three mischeivous boys with help from his loyal co-host, patient wife, and genius neighbor. Based
on Allen's stand-up comedy, the show will be one of the highest-rated sitcoms for almost the entire decade. 
Among the cast ... is Jonathan Taylor Thomas - playing Randy, one of  Allen's sons. He will later be the voice
of young Simba in Disney's animated feature The Lion King. The  series will launch Allen's acting career
which will include supplying the voice for Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear!

Mr. 3000, a sports comedy film starring Bernie Mac and Angela Bassett, is released. Distributed by Touchstone Pictures and Dimension Films, the film tells the story of a retired Major
League Baseball player who makes a comeback at age 47 in order to attain 3,000 hits.

Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort kicks off (through October 31). Over in
 Frontierland, Rancho del Zocalo honors Dia de los Muertos (or Day of the Dead) with traditional
skeleton figures on display until November 2 (which is Day of the Dead - a holiday
celebrated in Mexico and by Mexican Americans living in the U.S. and Canada.).

Disney Vacation Club, the time-share arm of the Walt Disney Co., announces
that it is building new units at Disney World's Polynesian Resort, the 42-year-old,
tropically themed hotel on the Magic Kingdom monorail line. The Polynesian will become Disney Vacation Club's 13th property and its ninth at Disney World.

Zendaya, the eponymous debut studio album by American singer and actress Zendaya, is released by Disney's Hollywood Records.
